High Relief Saint Gaudens
Certified Gold Coin
The experimental high-relief $20 coin struck on December 22, 1907 was the work of the famous American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It was the world's first gold coin to sell for more than $1 million. The obverse features the image of Miss Liberty striving gloriously into the future; the reverse features the majestic Flying Eagle. It is called "high-relief" because the devices are raised to an unusual height above the fields, which are excessively concave.
The 1907 ultra high relief Proof grade MS-67 (PF-67) sold for $2,000,000 and the Proof MS-69 (PF-69) sold for $2,990,000 in November of 2005.
